{adoption is} insane

Yep. You heard me.

Thought you were gonna come here for some encouraging words, didya?

Well, keep reading.

You would have to be insane to want to add more stress and chaos to your perfectly great life…right?

After all, adoption is expensive.

“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

Adoption is overwhelming.

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7

The unknowns can be scary.

“He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. His heart is steady; he will not be afraid.” Psalm 112:7-8

It requires sacrifice.

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23

It’s is exhausting.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

It can be frustrating.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9

Adoption is time-consuming…before, during and after the process.

“With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” 2 Peter 3:8

Adoption exacerbates my weaknesses.

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

Adoption is insane…

…and I’m as happy as a clam to be in the loony bin.

(don’t worry…I’ve got plenty-o-great stuff to say about adoption, but I’ll save it for another post):)

I love this. Every negative answered with the word of God. Perfect.

Elle Bee - September 9, 2011 - 2:13 pm

Not sure why that happened. The second comment must have been written by my twin…who is a robot.

emariestar - September 9, 2011 - 2:25 pm

Great post. =)

Colleen - September 9, 2011 - 2:32 pm

Hahaha…I fixed your robot twin’s comment. :)

I’m glad to be in the looney bin with such great company. We have had a hard string of days around here (that have seriously exacerbating my weaknesses!!!!) , so thanks for reminder of the eternal perspective!!

Hey, I LOVE this! SO true! In fact, I love it so much I’m gonna repost it at WAGI, K? I know you gave me a blanket blessing to repost anything of yours whenever, but it feels kinda sneaky to not let you know…so now you know. If you don’t want us to use it, just shoot me an email.

For some reason I believe this is your best. post. ever. That is all.

Tiana - September 10, 2011 - 7:18 am

It is definitely an insanity that those of us wrapped up in feel each and every day. But definitely wouldn’t trade it.

Cindy M - September 10, 2011 - 7:29 pm

I’d love to share it on facebook, too!! Do you ever put your posts up there? THIS is refrigerator worthy!!! Thanks so much!

Kelly - September 10, 2011 - 9:07 pm

A-MAZING! LOVE IT! Thank you for the encouragement! I’m adding your blog to my list…NOW! :)

Marci - September 12, 2011 - 9:06 am

Thanks I needed this today. Not your words, but God’s Word… reminding me that this isn’t about my abilities, plans or wants. Being real is good, but having an eternal perspective is better. Thanks for sharing it!

So, this is a well-timed post (of course). We JUST started our adoption from a “large African country” and I was feeling SO OVERWHELMED. Thanks for the perspective.

PS – I love that when I type “ugly” into the internet address thingy, your blog comes up :-) Ha!

Colleen - September 12, 2011 - 8:58 pm

Hahahaha…ugly…that’s hilarious!

Congratulations on your “large African country” adoption journey. (I bet I can guess which one!) :)

When it is is God’s will and God’s time, He will make the impossible happen. Thank you for the reminders. :)

(Adoption is on my heart but God is saying no at the moment)

SarahJ - September 13, 2011 - 8:23 am

A friend sent me a link to your blog this morning. Thanks for the encouragement. We’re 3 years into the adoption process of adopting a little girl from India (still no referral, yet!). Thanks for your humorous and jesus-filled blog posts. :) So encouraging to the soul.

Can we be cellmates in the asylum? Or roomies or whatever??? I’m so privileged to be part of the insanity with people like you!

angie - September 17, 2011 - 6:15 pm

good gracious i needed to hear those verses…and i needed to know i’m not the only one who thinks this journey is just as insanely awesome as it is insanely hard. i’ve had such a long week. i’ve been whining inside my mind. i’ve been allowing myself to huff and gruff. “take up your cross daily”. i haven’t been doing that. i’ve been taking up whining daily, and it’s a disease…it grows and grows…and i SO needed God’s reminder from His Word that it’s not in my strength and it’s not about me. thank you for your honest words dear one! they spoke right to me!

Kara M - September 18, 2011 - 10:13 am

I need to print this and post it on the wall! So perfect!
